Hand in Hand Galilee School
School website
My partners are Tom Mitelman and Hila Tzadok
The Hand in Hand Galilee School is drawing families from 27 surrounding villages, towns, and cities it serves as a rare hub for shared society in Israel’s north. Hand in Hand’s Galilee School not only provides Jewish and Arab students with a fully integrated, bilingual environment, it also provides some of the most innovative pedagogical practices in the country.
The Hand in Hand Galilee School is well recognised in the Arab sector and its reputation precedes it, but In the Jewish population, on the other hand, the school is poorly known and it is much more difficult to convince Jewish parents to register their children.
The school website doesn’t reflect not the progressive pedagogical practices neither the values of equality and integrated social movement.
- The website must reflect the core values of the school
- New visitors / interested parents will understand in few clicks the essence and the pedagogy of the school
- The website will provoke a keen interest about the school and will encourage parents to set up a visit
- To increase the number of entrants from the Jewish sector
- To increase donations

Defining the goals with the principle lead us to understanding that we have to narrow the target users to parents that are standing before the decision either to enroll or not their child to Galilee school and the contributors. Financial considerations and time constraints were also taken into considerations and has strengthen our decision.
Our starting point was a long conversation with the school principle. We talked about what makes Galilee school unique, what are the challenges and the goals of the school
In attempt to understand what are the motivations, what holds back parents from register to Galilee and what parents are looking for in school in general we have distributed online surveys. The information we collected helped us to understand the decision process the parents going through and their pain points
The interviews were conducted with Jewish and Arabic families. We learned what are the set of values in child’s education, parents’ priorities while choosing the right school for children and what are the challenges and the differences between Jewish and Arabic sectors.
We searched and studied the conventions and norms for data visualization in school websites

Parents Pain Points
- Majority of the kids in the settlement attend another school (this is true for the Jewish population)
- Low level of Arabic language lessons (this is true for the Arab population)
- Lack of information
First we’ve collected all the subjects that should appear on the website. After that we’ve organised them into categories (blue & pink). Then we’ve created a hierarchy (based on the research) between all the categories, in such a way that the most important subjects will be the first to be seen by the visitors (the pink).
